Save Space With A Portable Sheetfed Scanner

There are many sheetfed or flatbed scanners that are classified as portable, but in reality there are only a few scanners that are actually small and light enough to consider portable.

When looking for a portable sheetfed scanner, size is obviously the main consideration with weight being a crucial factor. To be considered portable, I believe that the scanner should be no more than about 5 pounds. This will allow you to tuck it away easily in a briefcase, backpack, or bag. You also want a footprint of under 20″ or the scanner will be too bulky to move around.

Most portable sheetfed scanners use a USB cable for their power supply although a few models have a seperate power cable. Always go with a scanner that has only one cable(USB) for it’s power source otherwise you will be constantly looking for a power outlet. It is also easier to just have one cable to worry about.

Portable sheetfed scanners are indispensable for the business person that is on the go and meets with clients often, a trade show exhibitor, or a sales person. Many different types of documents can be scanned including business cards, checks, passports, photos or any other printed document. They are very easy to set up and can be used for many different functions. Most are compatible also with other document management software to allow for simple transfers. They are also perfect for the college student who needs a small scanner that they can take with them too class.

Depending on what performance level you need, prices will vary for portable scanners. Entry level scanners can be purchased for about $100. If you need a portable scanner with higher resolution and faster speeds, you are looking at paying about $400 for a quality model.
